X-Forces Enterprise was honoured to be alongside The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS), The British Army and the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for a special Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Careers Showcase, which took place on Thursday 24th May 2018 at The RMAS. In attendance was the Rt. Hon Tobias Ellwood, Minister for Defence, People and Veterans; Brigadier Bill Wright, Commander and Lt. Col Deborah Taylor who was instrumental in organizing the event.
The Showcase event was a fantastic opportunity for girls from schools across the UK to see a wide range of STEM educational pathways and future employers. Traditionally STEM subjects and careers have not always been as appealing to young women as to young men, in light of this, current research shows a gender gap in career choices.
The focus of the event was at bridging this “gender gap” and encouraging more young women to develop a career in these STEM fields which are so needed for the future of our country. Over 900 young women attended this inspiring event and we were all privileged to listen to some inspirational female role models in their respective STEM fields. The delegates were able to interact with the industry organisations and get involved with some of the latest technology and tools. They were truly inspirational themselves!
Ren Kapur MBE, Founder and CEO, X-Forces Enterprise was involved on the day. ‘’ What a truly magnificent event to have so many young female students attend the day from across the UK. This is a testament to the commitment that the head teachers are making towards invaluable experiences for our young. As many of the industry partners agreed, if it made a difference to just one person then it was worth it!’’
“The future success of British industry, our technological reputation in the world and our economy relies upon the ability of all employers to attract and retain young talented people across a variety of career streams.” The Royal Military Academy
