I’m proud of all of the entrepreneurs we have supported over the years at XFE, but I always get an extra special buzz knowing the number of women we have helped support in finding their business feet. None more so than former RAF officer and spouse Hannah Saunders – founder of Toddle – which XFE supported with seed finance through our partnership with the Government’s Start Up Loans Company combined with XFE’s unique handrail of support.
Being an “outdoorsy family” in Hannah’s own words Toddle was born out of Hannah’s desire to protect her young children’s skin from the sun and elements. Not finding a suitable product on the market, Hannah created her own and has gone on to build a successful business based initially from her home.
Hannah’s candid story does not come without its own challenges, and her tips and advice for others are as refreshing as they are helpful.
At a time when we are all rightly focussed on diversity and inclusion it is great to see that women make up 29% of XFE supported business since XFE launched in 2013; a figure that is significantly more than the UK national average for female start-up businesses and the more remarkable when considering the current male / female demographic split of the Armed Forces.
